Prima Pramac Yamaha has confirmed Izan Guevara for the 2027 MotoGP grid, promoting the 2022 Moto3 world champion from its own Moto2 project to complete the team’s rider line-up. The announcement, made on the official MotoGP website on 27 August, pairs the 21-year-old Spaniard with Toprak Razgatlioglu, who stays at Pramac for a second season as Yamaha builds its long-term premier-class programme.

Guevara’s route to the top class has been patient rather than sudden. After taking the Moto3 crown in 2022, he spent two difficult seasons in Moto2 before a mutual commitment with Yamaha around eighteen months ago set a clear target: reach MotoGP. He has since become a consistent frontrunner, and he won the 2025 Moto2 season finale before mounting a championship challenge in 2026. Yamaha described the promotion as exactly what its BLU CRU rider programme was designed to achieve.

Pramac completes its 2027 pairing

The deal closes Pramac’s plans a full year before the rider even turns a competitive wheel for the team. Razgatlioglu, the Turkish World Superbike champion, joined the Yamaha satellite squad for 2026 and will give the line-up a foundation of premier-class experience when the new regulations arrive. Team principal Paolo Campinoti said Guevara had earned the opportunity through his Moto2 performances and continuous progress, while team director Gino Borsoi pointed to the blend of youth and experience as the right direction for the squad.

For Guevara, the move realises a goal he has repeated throughout his career. In the team’s announcement he called the step a dream come true and thanked Yamaha for its confidence, while stressing that his immediate focus remains on the 2026 Moto2 title fight. That balance, closing one chapter while preparing for the next, is the practical reality of a rider confirmed so far in advance.

Yamaha’s BLU CRU pathway pays off

Yamaha Motor Racing managing director Paolo Pavesio framed Guevara’s promotion as proof of the BLU CRU pathway, the structure that develops young riders inside the Yamaha family. Pavesio noted that the speed Guevara showed on his way to the Moto3 title left no doubt about his potential, and that the maturity he has built in Moto2 confirmed he is ready for the next step.

The timing is no accident. MotoGP enters a new technical era in 2027, with 850cc machinery and a switch to a different tyre manufacturer, a reset we examined when Buriram was confirmed to open the new regulations in Thailand. Buriram will open MotoGP’s 2027 rules era in Thailand. Yamaha believes a rookie joining at exactly that moment faces the same learning curve as every established rider, creating a rare window for newcomers to establish themselves.

A rookie class shaped by the 850cc reset

Guevara becomes the latest rider to lock in a 2027 seat as the grid reshapes around the new rules. He is not the only young talent climbing the ladder: David Alonso’s move to Honda for 2027 sets up a Colombian milestone in MotoGP’s 850cc era, and other recent deals such as Enea Bastianini’s switch to Trackhouse partnering Raul Fernandez from 2027 show how much of the field is being redrawn in a single off-season.

MotoGP’s official release noted Guevara is the third rookie confirmed on the 2027 grid so far, underlining how the regulation change has accelerated promotions from the intermediate class. For Pramac, the completed line-up offers stability: a proven World Superbike champion alongside a home-grown Yamaha talent who has spent years inside the brand’s system.

Guevara will race the remainder of the 2026 Moto2 season before his premier-class debut, with Yamaha and Pramac both stressing that his first goal is simply to learn and adapt to the new machinery. The full verdict on the promotion will only arrive when the 850cc bikes line up on the grid.
