Lando Norris has launched the next major project of his racing career away from the Formula 1 grid, co-founding LN4 Fusion as a multi-championship junior single-seater team. The official Formula 1 announcement says the programme will enter Italian Formula 4, the FIA Formula Regional European Championship and Formula 3.

The project was presented in Italy on September 2, close to Monza before this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. LN4 Fusion’s own launch statement describes a 2027 debut plan, with preparatory work already under way in Italy and British F4 testing taking place in Cambridgeshire.

A full ladder from F4 to the F2 selection process

LN4 Fusion is being built as more than a single-category entry. Its confirmed programme covers the Italian F4 Championship, FRECA and the FIA Formula 3 Championship, while the organisation has applied to participate in the F2 team selection process for 2027. The F2 application is not a confirmed grid place, so the immediate racing plan remains the three announced categories.

The organisation has also acquired selected assets from AIX Racing. Formula 1 reports that the deal includes the F3 entry secured through the end of the 2027 season. That gives LN4 Fusion an established route into one of the championships it has named, rather than leaving the new operation to build every part of its sporting structure from zero.

Rene Rosin will lead the European racing programme as team principal. The former Prema chief brings experience from a junior series operation with a long record of championship success. Dan Hazlewood will run the British operation, where testing has already started, while the principal European headquarters is being developed in Veneto.

The Legacy Programme targets the funding gap

Norris has paired the team announcement with the LN4 Legacy Programme, an independent, fully funded driver development initiative operated by ADD Management. Julian Rouse will lead the programme. Its stated purpose is to identify talented drivers and provide coaching, mentoring, performance support and career guidance without making the racing team’s entries the only route into the project.

That distinction matters because LN4 Fusion and LN4 Legacy are related but separate pieces of the plan. The team is a competitive organisation entering junior championships, while the Legacy Programme is intended to support drivers who may lack the financial backing or wider infrastructure normally required to progress. Norris is personally funding the development initiative, according to Formula 1’s announcement.

The driver pathway is a natural extension of Norris’s own route through karting and the single-seater categories. Bettista has already followed his long-term McLaren commitment through 2030, and the new venture gives him a separate role in shaping the level below Formula 1 while he remains an active McLaren driver.

LN4 Fusion’s cars will use a fluorescent yellow-led design associated with Norris, but the more important test will come from the people and processes behind the livery. The project now has to turn its stated structure into competitive entries, complete its facilities and clarify which drivers will fill the seats. That makes the 2027 season the first meaningful measure of whether the new team can deliver a complete ladder rather than simply carry a famous driver’s branding.

The scale of the launch also gives context to why junior programmes remain central to the sport’s future. As recent Formula 1 development work with Nikola Tsolov showed, the progression from junior racing to an F1 opportunity depends on more than a single test. LN4 Fusion and LN4 Legacy are designed to address that longer process, with the first confirmed competition programmes due to begin in 2027.
