Senna Agius will make his MotoGP debut with Red Bull KTM Tech3 in 2027 after the team confirmed the Australian as Luca Marini’s team-mate. MotoGP’s official announcement said Agius is the final rider to be confirmed for the 22-bike grid next season.

The move gives Tech3 a blend of premier-class experience and a new arrival for MotoGP’s next technical cycle. Marini will provide the established reference point, while Agius will begin his first season in the championship as the sport moves to new machinery and regulations in 2027.

A long route to the premier class

Agius has taken a less direct route to MotoGP than many of his new rivals. The Australian finished runner-up in the Moto2 European Championship in 2022 before winning that title the following year. He then stepped into the Moto2 World Championship with Intact GP in 2024 and reached the podium during his rookie campaign.

His progress continued in 2025, when he recorded his first World Championship win at Silverstone and added a home victory at Phillip Island. He finished that season 10th in the standings. The official MotoGP profile of Agius also records 2026 victories in the United States and Spain, alongside podium finishes in Hungary and the Netherlands.

That results line explains why Tech3 moved before the 2026 Moto2 season had finished. Agius was third in the championship at its halfway point, and the team viewed his speed, improvement and work ethic as the basis for a step into the premier class. The title remains undecided, but his 2027 destination is now settled.

What changes for Tech3 in 2027

Tech3 will start the new era with Agius and Marini after its current riders Enea Bastianini and Maverick Viñales move on. The pairing gives the team a clear contrast: Marini brings MotoGP race experience, while Agius arrives with current Moto2 momentum and no established premier-class record to protect.

The change will also place Agius in a five-rider rookie group for 2027. MotoGP has already identified David Alonso, Daniel Holgado, Izan Guevara and Nicolò Bulega as the other new faces joining the grid. That makes the first season of the new technical rules a direct comparison point for several riders moving up together, rather than a test Agius will face alone.

Readers following the championship can use Bettista’s Austrian Grand Prix event preview for the current Red Bull Ring weekend and the 2026 opening-rounds report for the season’s earlier form. The site’s San Marino GP report covers the latest completed round before the paddock turns towards the next phase of the season.

Agius will also become Australia’s new full-time MotoGP representative when the 2027 season begins. The official rider feature points to the planned Adelaide Street Circuit as a future home round, adding a national milestone to his promotion. For now, his immediate task is to complete the Moto2 campaign and prepare for the Valencia test, where the new rookie group is expected to begin learning the premier-class bikes.

Tech3 has therefore filled its 2027 line-up with a decision built around the sport’s reset. Agius will not inherit a settled technical environment: he and Marini will help define how the KTM-backed team starts the 850cc era, with the Australian arriving after a progression that has already taken him from European competition to the edge of a Moto2 title challenge.
